How conversions work
Every unit in a category is defined by its ratio to a base unit (meters, kilograms, liters…), so any-to-any conversion is two steps: into the base unit, then out. Temperature is the exception — Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin need offset formulas, not ratios, and the tool handles those separately.
Precision
Results show up to six decimal places using exact legal definitions (an inch is exactly 25.4 mm; a pound exactly 453.59237 g), so the output is as precise as your input.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert Fahrenheit to Celsius?
Subtract 32, then multiply by 5/9. The converter does this instantly — pick Temperature and °F → °C.
What is the difference between GB and GiB?
GB is decimal (1000³ bytes); GiB is binary (1024³ bytes). A "500 GB" drive is about 465 GiB, which is why drives look smaller than advertised.
Are these exact conversions?
Yes — they use the exact international definitions of each unit.
